This past Saturday we Art Farmers headed into the big city...Omaha, Nebraska. There is another residency there (Bemis) and they were having Open Studios and other festivities going on all weekend. Bemis is quite the opposite of Art Farm. It's located in an old brick factory type building in their downtown, and it has a lot of character, including one of those elevators where you have to slide up a wooden gate to enter and exit it.
Out of about 8 or so artists I was most taken with the work of Andrea Loefke, a German artist. She was working on drawings at Bemis, but apparently also does quite a bit of sculpture which you can see on her website.
Out of all the work hers seemed the most pure and honest and imaginative, which, to me, is the best kind of art.
